7/16/2023 0 Comments Ion bonding gun finish![]() So, I sent the whole thing to IonBond after having everything fitted to the gun, and then getting the fram re-anodized - a local industrial source does the frames for us - for free. The alloy frame was a sticking point, though - Melonite (Nitrocarburization) only works on Ferrous metals. Then I got a Lightweight Loaded for a song - couldn't resist having upgraded it in the same way. We do a lot of Melonite guns, and I knew I'd be happy with it. Everything is slick and rustprooof on the inside, dark charcoal black on the outside. I have a Melonized Springfield 1911, a Loaded that's been upgraded a fair deal by one of our pistolsmiths - some Ed Brown small parts including GI plug, thumb safety, Sylinder & Slide Tactical II 4Lb lockwork, fitted bushing, tightened slide to frame fit, XS Big Dots, fitted WC beavertail, S&A blended Magwell, and then had the whole thing melonized - we have it done locally. IonBond has been good to us as well, though my accountant wasn't too pleased the time they charged $84 for UPS return shipping. I've heard 25% reduction on a Sig P226 - not good. Trigger Groups can also be done, but I've no idea how much lighter the pull will become. If anyone has a nitrocarburized slide ( Glock, HK, M&P, Steyr, Walther P99 ) it's the "most proper" way to finish the metal treatment. I'll let him quote you prices but they are very reasonable. We can take credit card payments over the phone for a 3% charge to recoup the credit card processing fee.For those interested in having pistols coated please contact Ryan at IonBond in Greensboro, NC. Can be applied over a high polish finish No appreciable build-up to interfere with firearm operation Lubricious, corrosion, and chemical resistant We recommend you keep the coated parts oiled to prevent corrosion. ![]() This provides excellent abrasion resistance and a lowered coefficient of friction, which results in less resistance and heat buildup. The average micro hardness of PVD coatings are over 80 on the Rockwell hardness scale, yet does not effect the characteristics of the steel underneath. This makes PVD coatings perfect for application to both firearms and firearm components. The micronized nature of our PVD coatings ensures there are no perceivable layers of thickness added to the medium it is being applied to. ![]() Physical Vapor Deposition is a process used to provide hardness and abrasion resistance to machine parts and cutting tools in order to achieve maximum efficiency. If you are looking for a high performance coating for your firearm that is durable and looks fantastic, then look no further than one of Evolution Armory's beautiful PVD selections.
